writing and ecophilosophy classes
Hey All,
We have some times set for the writing and ecophilosophy classes.
The writing class will be Thursdays 12 to 3 pm pacific.
The ecophilosophy class will be Mondays at 12 to 3 pm pacific.
Now would be the time to commit to it, if you want to do it. Send me a note to derrick@derrickjensen.org
If enough people commit, then we'll do the classes!
I'll give people another week to commit, and then it will be another couple of weeks for people to pay, and then we would start the class after that, so it would start in about three weeks to a month.
Each class will cost $180 total for the full 12 weeks of three hours each.
below is information about the classes.
thank you,
Derrick
Here is a little information about each.
the writing classes are helpful for all levels of experience. i've had writers with several books out and writers who have never written anything. The stuff we talk about is helpful for lots of different styles, both fiction and nonfiction. and playwriting. I'm not great at poetry or grantwriting, but both have been in the class, and I think they got some use out of it.
I've said before, I know writing is very scary, and I'm really nice and supportive, and also teach how to edit your own stuff. We work on everything from line editing to large scale organization and research and the muse. The class is partly you asking me questions about anything associated with writing; partly you reading whatever you are working on, and me responding, and also me teaching everyone in the class to edit your own work and to respectfully edit other people's work; partly learning how to be critical readers, learning what makes good writing good, and not-so-good writing not-so-good; and partly just having fun with creativity and writing
The ecophilosophy class will be ecophilosophy, but as you know my work covers a lot of subjects, and we can discuss whatever ones you want. I've written about violence against women, violence against children, surveillance, marijuana culture, human supremacism, objectification, and lots of other subjects.
I was thinking of a few of the premises of my work. They might include: what is real is more important than what we think about reality; this way of life won't last forever, and when it's over I would prefer there is more wild nature left rather than less; civilization is inherently unsustainable; nonhumans of all types have their own intelligences, wildly different than ours.
I'm sure there are a lot more.
You don't have to agree with all of these, but i'm guessing if you do agree with these, then the class will be more, i don't know, special maybe (?), since those are some of the things people find in my work that they don't find in a lot of other people's.
A lot of people who have been in the ecophilosophy classes say they love them especially for being a time every week where we can openly talk about how much we love wild nature, and to have conversations that are biocentric. Those sorts of conversations are unfortunately rare.
I think that's all I've got for now. I'm sure there's more stuff I'll think of, but i don't know what it is at the moment.
If you are on facebook, here is a group where we discuss the writing class logistics

You don't need facebook to be in either class, or to receive information about the logistics. Lots of people in previous classes have not had facebook. It's just one way to organize, but the same information can be gained elsewhere, as in through these emails.
